A bike in the woods

A bike in the woods

25ml extra free!

Facinating fact: Sprite cans are 355ml here, 25ml bigger than in UK.

Stromboli isn't that like calzone. It's like a pizza pie, folded over and with spices toasted on the top. Pretty damn tasty!

Day 2 on the road: 59 miles.

Awoke early doors but took nearly 2 hours to pack up and eat underwhelming camp porridge (I'll have it sussed soon) but on the road before half 8. Last night was rainy and there was a little leakage but I think it was because i put the tent up badly. All fine anyway.

Rollin' rollin' rollin'...rawhide!

I'm on the road! Day 1 - 35 miles + messing about in DC

You find me in Fox's Pizza Den in Front Royal which is at the start of The Skyline Drive. i am currently awaiting my first Stromboli (like calzone? only time will tell...)

You Essay!

I made it! The journey was pretty easy in the end, thanks in part to Liz for driving me to Heathrow and to the people of Washington for helping me at this end. The food on the plane was good(!) and they had London Pride(!), it was pretty uncomfy tho and all the films were shit. They had Waylon Jennings, Paul Simon and The Smiths to listen to tho, not bad!

Relaxing last weekend in Brighton

It's my last weekend in Brighton for a while and I've still got a bunch of stuff to sort out before I go. Only a complete idiot would spend a day doing a really hard bike race in the mud...So, I did the Brighton Big Dog again up at Stanmer Woods and it was...really hard. It was great though. Fun isn't the right word but certainly enjoyable, in a twisted kind of way.

Rained off again yesterday :( Didn't rain once today :) What a rollercoaster.

Things seem to be coming together for the tour though. My bike mostly works. I put my front rack on the other day and was very happy to unstuck the seatpost. I just need to swap the tyres over now, fit the bar bag, change the front mech, replace all the cables and the brake pads, make sure the front panniers fit the rack OK, fit the new rear pannier, change the pedals and replace the chain. Hmmm.

Rained off work again. Harumph. I'm SO BORED of the rain. I'm pretty sure I've been soaked more times this year than in the previous 5 years of gardening put together. Hey ho. I may be dreaming of rain when I'm half way across the sun scorched southern states of America in a couple of months time...

So a few less £ in the tour fund but not being at work has allowed me to get my wants list finished so all is not lost.

"Bike day" lost to computering

I had such good intentions for today. I got up at 7.30am. On a Sunday. To spend the day fixing and readying bikes and wheels for sale before my trip. It's now 18.20pm and I've not left the house and haven't touched a bike. Damn.

I've have a pretty productive day though. Sort of.

How can it be 3 weeks since my last blog?? It doesn't feel like I've acchieved anything of substance towards the trip. That can't be right though, can it?

No! I've got a few small but essential items - skin so soft and sudocrem. Skin So Soft is the Avon "dry oil" body spray that apparently keeps mozzies and other bugs at bay. Sudocrem is nappy rash cream, apparently excellent for saddle sores. Thanks for that tip Ade, I'll let you know how I get on...
